My journey into the yoga practice began over seven years ago,
when chronic back pain created troubles sleeping at night. A member
at the gym that I was attending suggested taking yoga classes to
reduce the pain I was experiencing. After a considerable amount of
hesitation but with a spark of curiosity, I decided to enter the
doors of a yoga studio. I found the energy of this sacred
space (and savasana) encouraging me to return to practice, coupled
with the lessening of back pain that fueled my interest in learning
more and becoming more involved in this ancient tradition.
I have had the fortunate opportunity to study and learn during my
Yoga Alliance RYT-200 teacher training with many great yogis and
yoginis such as T.K.V. Desikachar and his family; Mark Whitwell;
David and Doug Swenson; Stephen Cope; Jamie Allison, Mitchel Bleier
and Sianna Sherman, Rodney Yee, Beryl Bender Birch, Paul Grilley,
Ana Forrest, Rod Stryker, Lilias Folan, and Amrit Desai. Through
all of these teachings and self-study, yoga has shown me that there
is a sacred space of light and peace that resides within all of us,
and when we bring this to the surface (through practice and
meditation), we can radiate this out to the world in a beautiful and
meaningful way for others to see.
In addition, I find gardening and hiking to be great spaces to
meditate and relax outside of my yoga practice.
